I’ve helped a lot of buyers find their lake homes here in Minnesota, and I can tell you that the buyers who end up with the best properties are almost always the ones who started early. Spring is that sweet spot where serious buyers get ahead of the summer rush — and it makes a real difference.

There’s also something practical about seeing a lake property before everything is in full bloom. You can see the lot lines more clearly, get a better sense of the topography, and honestly have a more honest conversation with a property before the staging of summer makes everything look its most magical. You want to love it in May, not just in July.

What I Look For in a Lake Home Search

I specialize in lake homes within about an hour or two of the Twin Cities, which is that perfect range where you can use a lake home as a true escape — close enough for a Friday evening drive, far enough that it feels like a world away. Some of my favorites are in the lakes country north and west of the metro, and there are some incredible properties in that corridor.

When I work with lake home buyers, I ask them to think beyond the obvious. Of course you want to love the water — but what kind of lake experience do you actually want? A quiet, natural lake for kayaking and loon-watching is very different from a full recreational lake with boat traffic on summer weekends. Neither is wrong, but they’re very different lifestyles, and I want to make sure we find the right fit for you.

I also think about things like the shoreline type, lot size, how the sun hits the water at different times of day, access from the road, and what the property will feel like in all seasons. A lake home is a big investment and a deeply personal one — I take that seriously.
